Spring makes me happy! I love watching the world come back to life…even if my allergies don’t particularly enjoy it. Strawberry Picking at Froberg's Farm in Alvin

Picking Strawberries at Froberg’s is a yearly tradition for our family! My kiddos love picking strawberries each year at this local family owned farm in Alvin, TX. With the temperatures warming up, the strawberries are exploding and ripe for picking. t's the perfect time to get outside and enjoy the fresh air! Be sure to spend a few minutes teaching your kiddos which strawberries to pick and NOT to pick so you take home the very best berries. We usually bring home 5- 10 lbs each visit….that’s a lot of strawberries! Not sure what to do with all of those berries, here are some ideas: make homemade jam, bake strawberry desserts like cake or pie, or wash and freeze them to use throughout the year for smoothies. Visiting Froberg’s Farm is also a great way to teach kids about where their food comes from and the importance of eating fresh and healthy produce.

Visit the Houston Zoo

We’ve been long time supporters of The Houston Zoo and have spent many gorgeous spring days visiting our favorite animals. When the weather is right, it’s a great place to spend a beautiful spring day with the family! From exploring the exhibits, to seeing a variety of animals from all over the world, to riding the carousel…there are always tons of options to entertain the kiddos. Our favorite actives are the Giraffe Feeding Platform, the McNair Asian Elephant Habitat, and the petting zoo! Be sure to check out their newest exhibit, Galapagos Islands, which opens on Friday April 7th! Pro tip - pack a picnic to enjoy mid day lunch at the zoo!

Go for a Hike in Memorial Park

As my kids have gotten older, hiking has become a family favorite activity. Being outside just feels good! Years ago, I used to run every weekend at Memorial Park with friends…so this place hold a special place in my hear! This park is a large urban park located in the right in the heart of Houston. It offers over 1,500 acres of green space, including a 3-mile trail that winds through a beautiful tree-filled forest. The park is a great place to go for a hike or bike ride with the family. While you’re there, you can also visit the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center which is just down the street!

Attend a Houston Astros Game

Opening day is just around the corner and our family is counting down the days! We are all Astros obsessed in our house, so we watch almost every single game (seriously!), but visiting Minute Maid park to see a home game in person is the BEST experience! We always make plans to attend at least 2-3 Astros home games each season because there just isn’t anything like it. And when the weather is perfect they open the roof to the stadium which is the icing on the cake! You can book your tickets now and plan to enjoy a day out at the ballpark, eat some delicious food, and cheer on the good guys. Did you know, Minute Maid Stadium also has a play area for kids, where they can run, climb, and play games…? Check it out on your next visit!

Visit the Beach in Galveston, TX

We are so blessed to live just minutes away from the beach here in Houston, TX…and there is nothing better than a day on the sand, soaking up the sun and enjoying the beautiful spring weather. With mild temperatures and fewer crowds than the summer months, spring is the perfect time to explore the sandy shores of Galveston. From swimming, to sunbathing, to hunting for crabs and seashells, building sandcastles, or flying kits… there are plenty of activities to keep you entertained. You can also go fishing, rent a kayak or paddleboard, or simply relax and enjoy the view. Don't forget to pack sunscreen, hats, and plenty of water to stay hydrated under the Texas sun! When you’re day on the beach concludes, be sure to visit some of Galveston’s best restaurants for fresh and amazing seafood!
